Children and Bed-Wetting

Friday, January 27, 2012

Did you know that nearly 40 percent of all three year olds wet the bed? I mention this statistic in an effort to reassure parents that bed-wetting is a common occurrence. By ages five or six 15 percent of children will wet the bed and some of those children will continue to wet the bed for a bit longer.

My own son had difficulty staying dry through the whole night. We were surprised because his older brother hadn’t had the same issues. We consulted our sons’ pediatrician who said not to worry because it simply takes some children longer to become more self-aware. In the meantime we bought youth incontinence briefs for our son to wear at night so he didn’t have to worry about any accidents, especially if he had friends over for a sleepover.

A Chance To Heal

Friday, January 13, 2012

After a year of health difficulties, my husband had to relearn many skills, including using the restroom. It took him some time to become adjusted to his healing body so he didn’t always make it in time. For a grown man who had always been in charge of his faculties, this was particularly frustrating.

I bought him Medline disposable briefs that fit comfortably under his pants so he could go out and about without worrying about accidents. As his body healed up and he became more aware of warning signs he needed the disposable briefs less and less. Although he was grateful to have them when he needed them, he was so excited when he was finally rid of them for good.

Post-Surgury Incontinence

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Last summer a friend of mine was in a serious car accident. She had to have multiple surgeries and then she spent several months in a rehabilitation re-learning how to walk. I frequently visited her and drove her to appointments.

Many days she felt like crying because of the toll the accident had had on her life. Even seemingly small things like getting to the bathroom on time were difficult. When she confided that detail to me, I went out and bought her Depend disposable underwear. I told her that she could wear them “just in case” and no one would be the wiser. I never asked her if she wore them or not, but the bathroom issue never came up again.

Make Shift Diaper Bag

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Have you ever noticed how much stuff babies need? This past Thanksgiving we spent the holiday weekend at my mother’s home a few states over. My husband packed the car to the gills with things we needed for our baby boy: play pen, crib, car seat, toys and more.

Of course, the one thing we forgot was the diaper bag! By the time we realized this it was too late to turn the car around. We made a pit stop at a grocery store and I picked up extra wipes, diapers, and baby powder. I also purchased Depend disposable pads to use in place of the changing mat that had been left behind.

They Are Not Only For “Maturing Adults”

Thursday, November 17, 2011

When you think of adult diapers, the misconception is that they are used only for older individuals that are incontinent due to age, mobility, impairment or dementia. People that have a medical condition due to bladder issues or bowel problems are not necessarily older or have any mental condition but still need to use them. There are individuals that maybe bed ridden or a wheelchair that may need to use disposable briefs.

Tena disposable briefs come in a wide variety. The cheapest and least absorbent are the ones that are commonly used. This is not because people are cheap by any means it is due to the fact that because medical facilities are the largest consumers of adult briefs due to the fact that they are required to change patients every two hours for health regulations.

Women Inflicted With Incontinence

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

As women get older they are more vulnerable to urinary incontinence. There are different reasons why women can experience leakage. The main reason is that the pelvic floor muscle starts to get weak. This can be due to age or just going through labor.

If you are one of the many women that are inflicted with incontinence there are options that are available to you. When just have a little leakage then a small pad is something that can be used for incontinence. If there is a chance that you can have a bigger issue then something along the lines of Tena briefs will be a better fit. They are more advanced and don’t look like a typical diaper, which will make any women feel less self conscious.

Changing A Patient In The Bed

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

If you have ever worked in the healthcare field you know that there are steps to making a bed. There are also steps in changing a bed while the patient is still in it. Changing a bed while a patient is still in it can be a little difficult.

When you have a patient that has to be changed regularly due to incontinence, you can get changing the incontinence underpads down pat. You never want to change a bed ridden patient by yourself. Gently rocking the patient back and forth from side to side will allow you to roll up the old pad and get the new pad put in place. Making sure that you have another under pad placed to change out the old one will save your back and time. It will also make the patient more comfortable.

A Different Style Of Adult Pads

Wednesday, October 05, 2011

When it comes to adult diapers there are a few different styles that you can choose from. Depending on what you are more comfortable with wearing is what you will have to decide on for yourself. Adult diapers can be a little more bulky then others adult pads.

Underpads have a more underwear type of feel to them. They are not as bulky, but still give you the same protection as depends. You won’t have to feel uncomfortable wearing these type of adult pads. Again what you choose is going to be what’s best for your comfort level.

Expect The Unexpected

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

As we get older our bodies seem to tire out. Whether it is from just getting older, or having the joy of becoming a mommy, these are just a couple of scenarios.  What we once were able to do is not so easy. This really pertains to our joints and bladders. It can be quit embarrassing if  you aren’t prepared for the unexpected.

Fortunately there are things that we can do to make sure that though accidents happen you can at least be prepared for it. Depend disposable briefs are one of those things that you can wear that will ensure you are safe from embarrassment.
