Taking On My Incontinence

Friday, August 20, 2010

All of my life I’ve prided myself on my self-sufficiency and resiliency, so when my health began to deteriorate a couple of months ago, I didn’t know what to do. I could deal with the minor aches and pains, but one problem I couldn’t overcome alone was my incontinence. After trying to hide the problem for weeks, I decided to see my doctor.

She told me that incontinence is quite normal in the aging population and that the best means of controlling is was adult diapers. As you can imagine, that was a hard pill for me to swallow, but it was a necessary one. After shopping around, I settle on Prevail diapers. They’re lightweight and effective, so nobody else can tell I’m wearing them and I don’t have to worry about seepage when I’m out in public.

Coping with My Incontinence

Thursday, August 05, 2010

I often hear people being critical of young people for their brash temperament. This is often due to a sense of invincibility, with the foolhardiness of youth distorting a youngster’s perception of reality. And while it’s nice to enjoy the freedom and liberty that youth offers, it’s important to recognize your limitations as well.

Although I’m in my 70s, I have to admit that I recently found myself falling victim to this disillusioned since of my own capabilities. Nobody likes to admit that their health is deteriorating, so when I began to suffer incontinence problems, I was hesitant to seek help. Now I’ve learned to accept the issue and have begun taking measure to remedy the issue, including carrying Attends underpads with me at all times.

Caring for Dad

Thursday, July 22, 2010

When my mother died a few months ago, my dad told me that he didn’t want to continue living in their home by himself. In recent years his health has been in a steady decline, so I suggested going to an assisted living facility. As soon as I brought it up I could see the disappointment in his eyes; I quickly retracted my statement and invited him to come live with my wife and I, an invitation which he readily accepted.

Honestly, I was expecting to have to be tending to his father constantly, but he’s been surprisingly self-sufficient. He changes his own Tena disposable briefs, bathes himself and even takes our dog for walks in the afternoon. Since he was a high school math teacher, he’s also been helping our youngest child with his math assignments. The situation is working out beautifully, and I’m a bit ashamed of my prior apprehensions.

The Full Gamut of Disposable Pads

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

A couple of years ago I began experiencing mild incontinence problems. It would only happen on rare occasions, but when it did, it was certainly embarrassing and put a damper on the rest of my day. Over the years, my incontinence has gradually worsened, requiring me to seek out increasingly absorbent products to contain the situation.

Luckily, Medline disposable pads are available in an array of strengths, allowing you to pick a product tailor-made for your needs. As I’ve learned, some pads can be bulky and uncomfortable, so you want to have a lightweight option if you only suffer from mild incontinence. I believe Medline recognizes the needs of incontinence sufferers, which is why they provide a spectrum of products.

Effective Incontinence Solutions

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

As people grow older, incontinence becomes increasingly common. It used to be that people simply had to suffer the embarrassment and discomfort of incontinence without a viable way of handling the disorder. Fortunately, there are now myriad means for incontinence sufferers and their caregivers to mitigate the adverse effects of incontinence.

In my experiences, TENA disposable underwear are one of the best options, particularly for those with severe incontinence. The product effectively contains all of the mess while looking and feeling like a regular undergarment. Best of all, you can throw them away when you are out and put on a clean pair, leaving your feeling fresh the entire day.

Taking Care of Grandpa

Monday, June 07, 2010

For as long as I can remember, my grandpa has been a focal character in my life story. Since he lives just a few blocks away, he was in attendance at all of my school activities and sporting events. We have maintained a close relationship throughout the years, but his health his taken a turn for the worse as of late.

It pains me to see my grandpa in poor health, but I still pay him a visit everyday. I usually go in the afternoon and help out with chores around the house, changing his Attends briefs and running errands. Most nights I will even cook us dinner and enjoy a nice meal with my grandpa

The Merits of Disposable Underpads

Monday, May 24, 2010

Incontinence comes in all shapes and forms, and for those suffering from minor incontinence, a full brief or diaper isn’t always necessary. Disposable underpads offer a more discreet means of coping with incontinence issues. These thin pads are comfortable and undetectable while offering a high level of absorbency.

Most underpads come with a woven top-sheet, which allows fluids to easily pass to an absorbent core. This design allows for superior protection while still allowing airflow. You can choose from several pads depending on the size of the person and their specific incontinence needs.

Discreet Undergarments Put an End to Embarrassment

Friday, April 23, 2010

For one reason or another, it occasionally becomes necessary for doctors to remove a portion of a patient’s colon. This procedure is performed with the best intentions in mind – it’s often done to eliminate or stave off dangerous medical conditions. In any event, patients are left with a colostomy, or a surgically created opening of the colon. They then require a customized pouching system – sometimes called a – to collect waste.

Although it shouldn’t be so, the presence of an ostomy can become a source of embarrassment. Society dictates that bodily functions are not placed front and center; rather, their existence should be minimized in the presence of polite company. Ostomy underwear helps to make the process much more discreet by fitting snugly and comfortably over the pouching system, but you will want to be sure to always have Attends wipes on hand as well.

Taking Care of Mom

Wednesday, April 07, 2010

When my mom moved in with my wife and me, we were ill prepared for the range of tasks that taking care of her entailed. After suffering multiple strokes, my mother’s health had deteriorated quickly and she was unable to do many basic tasks by herself. Now that she has been living with us for a couple of months, we have all become more accustomed to the situation and developed a routine.

I am in charge of helping my mom run errands and do basic tasks around the house such as preparing food. My wife helps her with various tasks in the bedroom and bathroom, including getting in and out of the tub and changing her Attends diapers. I can tell that my mother feels like she is a burden, but my wife and I are more than happy to have her living with us.
